Sports injuries are injuries that occur while participating in sports or physical activity. Whether you are a weekend warrior, pavement pounder, gym junkie or professional athlete, 20% of people participating in sport will sustain a sporting injury.
Common sporting injuries that we see include:
- Sprains and strains
- Tendonitis
- Dislocations
- Golfer’s/tennis elbow
- Knee injuries such as: runners knee, ACL tears, meniscal tears
- Fractures
Just like there are many different types of sporting injuries there are also many different causes. Causes can include things like trauma, deconditioning, history of previous injury, dysfunctional movement patterns and over training.
At Movement Therapy your treatment of a sporting injury will begin with comprehensive examination and testing to diagnose the issue. Our Movement Therapists will look not only for the injury but for the cause of the injury in order to help prevent the injury from reoccurring.
Treatment will generally start with hands on therapy and progress to foundational rehabilitation before progressing to sports specific movements. At Movement Therapy our priority is to get you back doing what you love and doing it better than you were before.
This is by no means a comprehensive list of sporting injuries If you have a specific question about your injury or recovery, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
